If it’s your first GoPro or you’re upgrading from an inferior action cam, then yes. You won’t find better video quality, ease of use, and value from the competition. GoPros can shoot 12-or 10-megapixel stills, but they are much more limited than conventional cameras. We’ve already mentioned their behavior in low light and barrel distortion, but a lack of zoom and focal length adjustments are equally hindering. You need to keep the camera at least 12 inches away from your subject, or else the picture becomes blurry.
Best of all, the GoPro’s shape hasn’t changed since the HERO5 Black, meaning that every accessory released since its launch is also compatible with newer Black models. This new in-built mount with magnetic clasping is a handy feature that will save you a lot of time in the long run. There are a lot of things to consider and while this all might be manageable when looking at it at home, it can be a little overwhelming trying to fix in the field. The only minor thing I do with mine is stick a tiny piece of napkin/whatever rolled up between the cameras so there’s no bouncing of the cameras against each other.
There’s only about a 2-3mm gap, so with some really hard whacks, they can touch, this keeps them from doing that. As for the batteries, while it is annoying that the Hero 9 has new batteries, I will say that the claims do hold true. In my hours and hours and hours of testing the Hero 8 and Hero 9 side by side, every time the Hero 8 battery ran out well before the Hero 9 did .
